Buying for a Cause is an effort to raise funds needed to sponsor Tibetan children living in exile through the Tibet Aid Education Department Program:
“Aid has been given from many organizations and world governments, but due to the constant growth of the population in exile, resources are constantly strained. The Sponsorship Program is a way in which individuals from around the world can lend a hand.
A contribution of $20 per month covers room and board for a child attending a Tibetan residential school; a contribution of $30 per month covers books, uniforms, and school fees, as well. The poorest and most needy children are carefully selected for sponsorship.”
Why are we Selling for a Cause?
Last year, my partner and I took on the sponsorship for Dhundup Tsering. It’s been a wonderful experience and we decided to extend our participation. We thought of ways we could afford other sponsorships:
- We can sell the things that we no longer need, but still feel stupidly attached to.
- We can take book, bike, clothes, furniture, electronics, etc. donations from close-out shops and other generous establishments and individuals.

If you see anything you want / need / could-use in our Shop, please, don’t hesitate to buy it. Your purchase has the value that 100% of the amount will be donated towards the sponsorship of a child’s education through Tibet Aid. And you’ll have what you bought.
How can we afford to donate 100% of the proceeds to Tibet Aid?
Simply because we want to. I’m a book addict and buy publications faster than my shelves can accomodate. I’m also a Web Programming student, you can guess that from most of the titles you’ll see in the shop. As soon as I’m done reading them, I no longer need to keep them around. All volumes are in excellent condition unless specified, that means they are as good as new because they’ve been treated with extreme care.
If you don’t see anything you want / need / could-use in our Shop, but still wish to help, there are many ways:
1) Visit Tibet Aid’s website at www.tibetaid.com and sign-up to sponsor a child, a monk or nun through their various programs.
2) Go through your personal stuff and see if there is anything you’d like to put up for sale. Take pictures, write up a description, decide on a price and email everything to sell@buyingforacause.com . We will list the item(s) on our Shop and inform you where to ship the item once it is sold. Don’t worry, we’ll pay you the shipping cost (well, our happy buyers will).
3) If you know anyone who may be interested in Buying for a Cause or Selling for a Cause, please, refer them to our website.
Remember, the important thing is to lend a hand in whichever way you can.
Our goal is to sponsor as many kids as posible in the years to follow. Tibet Aid suggests sponsors commit to supporting the children until they complete highschool. It is a long term effort, but well worth it. See for yourself ;)
